There’s a new version of my ChecklistTree application in the software section. Here are the new features for version 1.1.2007.0326:

• Filename is now displayed, and editor state (red=dirty,green=clean) is represented by color
• Save behavior changed to speed up the application
• Bug fixes with the save/load and invalid XML characters
• Parent nodes auto-check when their child nodes are all checked (and vice versa)
• Parent nodes uncheck if they are checked and one of their children becomes unchecked

It’s simple really…find a lane that is ending, get in it and floor it.

Perhaps too simple a theory…let me explain. When a lane is ending, most people will preemptively merge into the lane which remains that is n+1 or n-1 lanes with respect to the merging lane. This leaves a void of cars ahead of you in the lane.

Meanwhile, the merge INTO lane is slowing down and getting backed up because the number of people populating it is increasing as drivers allow cars in front of them for the merge.

The net result is that the disappearing lane’s speed increases, whereas the valid lane’s decreases.

At this point you may be asking “well, what if nobody lets me in?” or “won’t the time I save speeding ahead of other people be lost by the time I have to wait to merge when I get to where the lane ends?” or something like that. The fact of the matter is, somebody will let you in, eventually, because stupid people exist to be abused. As for the benefits, I estimate that as long as you pass 5 cars in this process, you will have a 95 percent chance of saving time. Five cars is not alot of cars, so generally speaking, you will almost always save time this way.

Does this make you an asshole? Yes. Probably. Then again, assholes always win in the end, and if you enjoy being an asshole, you can enjoy the frustration that the people who preemptively merged are feeling as you passed them.

So I go to pay my electric bill online, and my account balance shows like 40 bucks. I go to pay the bill, and it shows a CREDIT of around 2 bucks, and refuses to let me pay the damned bill because it thinks its a credit.

So let’s break down the little adventure I’ve had so far…

I’m sitting in PHX typing this, so god only knows if it will post:

Our flight out of TUS to PHX was late getting in. It left late and all, but it got in too late to make our connection. Basically, our connection (PHX->PSP) had left the ground before we landed. Lovely. US Airways figures that since there were only 3 people that needed to make connections (there was another guy en route to Anchorage) that they could just say “fuck em” and left us to manage. We go to customer service and eventually get booked a hotel for the nite, courtesy of US Airways. Things were looking up until we got to the hotel, where we were told “oh, we’re all sold out, go back to the airport and try again” and almost were about to leave (without shooting anyone, aren’t I stable lately) when the manager of the hotel stepped in and made sure we had rooms, and got us checked in. The hotel itself was completely lousy…it was cold, the A/C seemed to be permanently in the on position, and by the time we got in, the only restaurant open was the hotel lounge.

Hopefully things will improve, but all signs point to our connection coming back in Vegas getting cancelled, so we’ll see.

(like, seriously in need of deodorant) but won’t wear deodorant because she thinks it “hides her natural scent”.
