New category, new blog series

So I’m really sick of these wheresgeorge.com people…they really need to get a better hobby. SO, I decided to retaliate…I’m going to see to the destruction of every single one of these damned bills I ever find!

U.S. law requires that any bank return to the federal reserve bank for destruction, any bill which has been defaced. The markings for “wheresgeorge” count as defacement. So, for every bill I find, I’m going to scan it (at low resolution, 75dpi) and post it here. Then, I’m going to as soon as I can, walk it into my local branch and exchange it for a crisp, undamaged bill.

If anyone would like to scan their bills with wheresgeorge.com markings on them, and send me the images, along with the city in which the bill was collected for destruction, I’ll happily add it here with proper credit to the good, non-money defacing citizen who helped us end this insanity.

So, off we go then…

The river behind my work

So the last few days have been rain-like-hell-days, so I took some pics of the “river” bedind my office. Click the thumbnails for larger versions.

These were from the 27th:

Front page ads

I removed the ads from the front page. They were annoying me, and (unobtrusive as they were) I just don’t want them on the front page. There’s still an ad on the blog, but that one actually fits and should be easy to ignore (or just use adblock, if you don’t want to see the ad). It’s just a google ad anyway, which is mainly there so I can experiment with AdSense.

I left the Firefox referral ad on the front page for a few reasons:

  1. I actually *do* use, test, and develop this site on Firefox (1.5.0.5 at time of writing).
  2. The google toolbar (on windows) is pretty cool in and of itself. Highliting terms on pages has saved me more time than I’d like to think about…
  3. Firefox is a really neat browser because of things like adblock and the extension architecture
  4. 30 percent of my visitors use Firefox. I wanna see that number in the 80 percent range.
  5. It runs on linux! What more can anyone want!? :D

Facebook and iTMS

So I read on digg the other day about Facebook giving out iTMS credit to download music for joining their “Apple Students” group, so I figure, it’ll cost me about 20 secs to log in and join the group…no loss there. So I join the group, get my “code” for the iTMS junk and put it in.

They gave me 25 songs, as promised…but the songs they gave me were chosen by someone else…and they SUCKED HARD. The only one I recognized was this Morningwood song that I’d only known about because I downloaded a different song by them after hearing it over and over on XM.

To make things worse, iTMS doesn’t even give you high quality music! The things were encoded at 128 kbit/s AAC-LC. Why can’t I have AAC-HE (aacPlus) or VBR MP3s?

Apple, Facebook, you both suck hard. At least *tell* people that they’re not getting music that’s even worth listening to.

Fucking bots…

I’ve noticed alot of hits in my logs for /trackback on posts…well, because of the propensity of bots to be doing this, I’m disabling trackbacks and pingbacks. They’re useless to me anyway.

Deal with it.

The new skin for the blog is FINALLY done!

It’s finally finished. After 2 hours, then 3 months of sitting on my ass, and 2 more hours of work, the new wordpress-compatible skin is ready to go!

Go check it out!

New blog I’m “affiliated” with

So, I’ve got a new project on the wires here. I’m pissed with bad service at restaurants, so I got an idea:

Anywhere I go that I had bad service at, I’m writing about it. Full fuckin’ disclosure kinda stuff.

Read up, don’t ask for waiters that are “featured” here.

Dumb Waiters

Software section is online!

I just finished installing the “software” section of the site. This area is where I’m gonna host binaries and source for applications I’ve written and want to show off and/or share with everyone.

Anyway, enjoy!

Chili’s new menu?

Either Chili’s has a new menu item or someone hosed the closed captioning…I wish I had seen it sooner so I could have gotten a picture while the Chili’s ad was up, but alas, I was too slow. At any rate, enjoy this at the expense of some inattentive slob’s job (probably) :)

It’s been awhile (again)…

Ok, I haven’t posted in awhile. I’ve been totally fucking swamped lately, but if all goes well, I’ll have that all straightened out by the first week of August., and I’ll give you all an update.

Stay tuned…I’ll talk about a new blog/site section then too :)
